Help Me?

So I have quite a few things to upload and stuff for you guys..and unfortunately I haven’t been able to do so because of having to do some updates and stuff on my computer. The program(it was actually a website) that I used to use doesn’t work anymore, it just crashes by itself, not letting me save my pictures and stuff. So if you guys have any tips on what programs/websites are good to use for quick photo editing + watermarking/adding text (preferably free), please share them! I have a Mac, iPhoto works great for quick edits, but I want to be able to make collage type (anywhere from 2-8 squares) pictures to post…I have CollageIt Free but I don’t really like it since you can’t adjust(move it up or down in the square) the photo once it’s in the collage.

Thanks in advance!

New Revlon Line + Upcoming Reviews

Hello, hello! Today I went to the drugstore and purchased a couple of items and of course the first section I go to is the nail polish section…and guess what I found?! A new line of Revlon polishes(apparently they haven’t arrived in US drugstores yet….that’s a shocker). The line is called Revlon Brilliant Strength, there is no mention of it being a limited edition line, and they have QUITE a range of of colours, around 10-12 is what was available where I went. At the drugstore I went to, they were $6.99(CDN), which is around the same price as any other Revlon polish, except for the duo end polishes and the Colorstay line, which are $8.99. Anyway, I was SO close on purchasing one of the colours, but then I didn’t since I had JUST bought a few nail polishes a few days ago. But I think I will go back at some point and get some. The colours are rather unique, they aren’t just your ordinary dupable nail polishes. There were three that caught my eye – a turquoise colour, it was like a more opaque-er/slightly brighter version of Turquoise and Caicos by Essie(it just looked more opaque in the bottle, I obviously don’t know what the application is like) and a dark dark duo,-chrome ish, metallic blue colour that was absolutely stunning, and a dark metallicish burgundy colour, with some specks of glitter(maybe), which would be perfect for Fall. If I actually get any from that line(which I want to) it will definitely be the turquoise and the burgundy colour.
Anyway, my main reason for going to the drugstore in the first place was to get some eyeliner; I got the L’Oreal Extra-Intense Liquid Pencil Eyeliner in Carbon Black, it retails for around $12.99, but it was on sale for $8.99 and I had been eyeing it for a while, so I thought the sale was a sign for me to buy it, and I did! I am in LOVE with it already. It is so creamy and so intense in colour, I will be reviewing this after a few more uses to give you more of an idea of what I think about it! 🙂
Another product that I bought was the eos Shaving Cream, I had never seen these in store before , only heard of them, so I HAD to buy it. I am such an eos fan, I really want to try the eos body lotion as well, but I have yet to find it in a store, so yeah! I actually have used the shaving cream already, but I think I will need to use it a couple more times to give you a full on review, so be waiting for that! 😀
One more thing! Be on the lookout for the next post in my Fall 2012 Nail Polish Favourites series…I think I’m feeling a little “blue” thinking about it. 😉

Just A Little Confidence Is All You Need.

Back to school season, I know the majority of people from the US have already gone back to school, but in Canada, school starts in the first week of September, for most schools anyway. I know that one thing young girls struggle with is confidence in middle/high school. That’s why some people consider high school as some  horrid stage in their lives. Some people find that body image is what they most “struggle” with. They think they’re too “fat”, too “skinny”, not “pretty enough”, etc. It doesn’t help that there are people out there that actually say something about it to them, like telling them that they’re “ugly” or “fat”. In my opinion, commenting on someone’s looks in a negative way is just LOW. Do people not realize how rude that is? Sometimes people don’t really help us with appreciating ourselves as we are. I have been thinking about this for a while, thinking about when in my middle/high school years have I been told something “negative” about my looks. I always thought I had it pretty good and always appreciated that no one really completely “bullied” me based on my looks, but I was kind of wrong, but at the same time, I am proud of myself for not letting anything get to me personally when things were said to me. All throughout my school years, I was a pretty skinny girl just because of an insanely fast metabolism. I ate much more than all my friends, yet I just COULDN’T gain weight, and if I did gain weight, it just didn’t show ANYWHERE. I remember in grades 5-7, I was even called “anorexic” by my classmates and some girls that were a year older than me, that hurt, but I didn’t really care because I knew that I didn’t have any type of eating disorder. Also, I got made fun of because I wasn’t “developed” enough…in my opinion, for an 11/12 year old, I was fine. Thinking back on this, I am quite proud of myself for being strong and not letting it affect me in any way, especially considering how many young girls ARE affected by such things.  By the time I was 13, I was “developed”, and I remember thinking “HA!”, but by then I was at a new school and didn’t really see my old schoolmates. I was still skinny though, skinny as a stick and I remember trying to do everything I could to just gain a little bit of weight, but it was a hopeless cause. When I was in grade 9(14 years-old) we had Physical Education with the grade 10 girls, I always hated having that class with older girls. My best guy friend’s sister was in that grade 10 class, and well, she absolutely hated me. She hung out with three other girls, one of which was extremely nice and I could stand, the other two were just as annoying as my friend’s sister. I don’t know WHAT the three had against me. They weren’t even considered as the “popular” group of girls in their class, the group that was considered “popular” were incredibly nice and totally cool. Anyway, they would ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS make fun of how I was so skinny, and tell me I was a “stick” and while playing sports if we made contact they would say “oh your bones are hurting me!” – REALLY?! was that a necessary comment to make? I don’t think so. Once again, I never really let it bother me. Needless to say my friend’s sister and her friend were quite skinny themselves! So that was just quite annoying. Once I was in grades 10-12, I had accepted the fact that no matter how much weight I’d gain, it wouldn’t make a difference, and no one really said anything about my weight, it was all good. Then in first year university, I gained weight, and you could see it, now I’m at the perfect weight(still on the thin side though, but in my eyes it’s fine), and extremely happy with it. I’m happy with how I look, and have completely accepted my body+looks, sure there are days when I just think I look terrible, but as a girl, you’re going to have many days like that! 🙂
So I hope you guys realize that you shouldn’t let ANYONE bring you down about anything. Mind your own business, if people are going to say things, let them,  just don’t let it bother you. When they realize that you’re not being affected by their words, they’ll stop. Everyone in beautiful, and as girls get older, they get even more beautiful. Middle school/most of high school is the time for your “awkward” years, so don’t even worry about it.

I Want This.

Have you guys seen the Deborah Lippmann nail colour in Mermaid’s Dream? It is GORGEOUS. I think I have heard that they have an almost dupe-able colour by Urban Outfitters? I have never seen it, but I believe that it is called Sea Dust(also a fitting name). But guys, I would LOVE you so much if you bought this colour for me by Deborah Lippmann(hehehehe)….I can’t even get over it! My town doesn’t even sell Deborah Lippmann, nor do any of the neighbouring towns, I’d have to go out like an hour to even see any of her polishes, and usually it’s a limited supply of them too! SIGHS. I’ll show you a swatch of it that I found online. Doesn’t it make you want it? Beauty in a bottle. The name fits it perfectly. I am SO jealous of the people that actually own this colour.

NOTD: August 23 – Mint With A Little Orange Flair

Summer is slowly ending, a little bright but a tad bit toned down nails are the way to go!

Products Used:

  • Mint Sorbet by Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear
  • Orange Fix by Maybelline Color Show. Unfortunately, I really didn’t like this polish so that’s why I’m using it for nail art/designs, don’t really want it to go to waste. The finish of the polish is kind of like a vinyl-matte finish, I don’t really like it. It feels a little rubbery.
  • Black Nail Art Polish
  • Revlon Clear Top Coat

Fall 2012 Nail Polish – PURPLE CRAZY.

So Autumn(do people still say Autumn, or is it just Fall? Hmmm.) is quickly approaching us, if you couldn’t tell! I decided I would do a little mini post series of different fall nail polishes, and I decided I’d start with PURPLE! These are my go to purple nail polishes for this coming season. So you may see some of these colours on, in upcoming NOTD posts! Remember, this is focused on the SHADES, not necessarily the brand of nail polish, considering some of these were “limited edition” nail polishes, so they won’t be in stores anymore. So if you find that you like some of these colours, remember there are dupes out there for most! 🙂 If you like a certain one of these shades, just comment below and ask the shade name if you can’t see it in the picture! 🙂 To see the picture enlarged to see the shades in more detail, just click on the image and you’ll see it magnified. 🙂

Coloured Jeans?

Yes, I caved, I am on the bandwagon for the whole coloured jean trend. I am in love. I remember a couple years back when I was in grade 9 or something, coloured jeans started to become popular, and I just thought it looked completely ridiculous. And now that they have made their comeback, if you wear it right, they look so good. I only have 3 pairs of jeans that are not blue/black. I strayed from blue jeans at first by buying gray ones, playing it safe. Then recently I brought some bright turquoise ones, LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE these!!! Then I also bought forest green ones, since Fall is approaching, less bright colours are so “in” . I have been on the search for a pair of purple ones as well, probably darker purple since Fall is approaching, and a pair of dark burgundy ones. Brighter ones are perfect for the summer and look absolutely stunning with something like a crop top, holla, I’m in love. Who needs boys when you’ve got coloured jeans. 😉

My Makeup Disasters Through The Years

I know that I’m not the only one who has had disastrous makeup looks throughout the years, you guys should also make a post like this, to make me feel better. 😉 Haha!

When did I first start using makeup?
Probably grade 7(when I was 12), but before that I DID use makeup like a little eyeliner/lip gloss, but rarely.

MY MAKEUP DISASTERS

Grade 7 was just a disaster. Thinking about it just makes me laugh and think that I was a complete IDIOT!  Makeup can make you look pretty, or make you look like a clown. I was definitely going for the “pretty” look, but achieved something closer to the “clown” look, I’m pretty sure. 😛 I was literally OBSESSED with makeup when I was in grade 7, I don’t even know why, considering I didn’t even know how to apply it properly. My school went from Kindergarten to Grade 7, so being in grade 7, I thought I was super cool, which gave me the right to wear lots and lots of makeup. Boy, what did I know. Uhhm…NOTHING. So I got this palette of eyeshadows from the drugstore, it had a wide range of colours, there were very pretty shades. Something made me like the bright pink shimmery eyeshadow in that palette, a little too much. I CANNOT pull off pink eyeshadow…and the way I had it applied, all over my lid, just looked TERRIBLE. My mom even told me that I was wearing too much, as did my teacher, and some of the kids in my class who wore equally as much makeup…..but no, I was cool…people saying that didn’t really bother me, I just wanted to do my thing. I even had the eyeshadow fallout on my lashes and cheeks..*shudder*. Then I remember getting a light blue shimmery eyeshadow stick, it was such a pretty colour, and probably would have looked great if I hadn’t caked it on so much on my lids. I remember my teacher used to make us take off our makeup if we had too much on..yeah, that happened to me. My classmates and I would all go to the bathroom and just COMPLAIN about how ridiculous our teacher was being for making us take it off, little did we know that she had our best interests in mind.
After grade 7, I just completely quit with the eyeshadow thing for the most part, I just stuck to eyeliner, but in grade 8 and 9, my eyeliner sucked, so I’d go to school with eyeliner, come back with nothing on my eyes. Grade 10/11, I found good eyeliner, my application of it had gotten better, but I started putting more of it on. This was another time in my life where I thought I was really cool and totally knew what I was doing. I had this thing where I thought the more eyeliner, the prettier you were…..WRONG. Raccoon eyes. I also liked to pack on the eyeshadow…ew. Looking back at pictures, it makes me shudder.
Once I hit grade 12, I realized that there was no need to have so much makeup on my face, and that ‘less is more’. Near the end of grade 11 and onwards, my makeup application skills were fiinee…I had passed my “awkward” years. YAY. I can just be thankful that now at the prime age of 19, I kind of have an idea of what I’m doing. 😀

NOTD – August 20 – Shimmer + Glitter

Hey guys! It has been TOO long since I have made a nail post, so here’s the first one in a long time! 🙂 Summer’s almost over and the it has been getting colder out…so I decided to go with a “dark” but bright colour, and then played it up a bit.

Products Used:

  • Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Anemone of Mine (base purple colour)
  • Covergirl Boundless Color in Ruby Dust (the glitter)
  • Sally Hansen HD Hi-Definition Nail Color in DVD (the blue shimmery colour) – absolutely LOVE this colour for layering, it looks AMAZING on top of dark blue polishes.

40 Beauty Questions TAG!

SKINCARE

How many times do you wash your face daily?
Usually twice…sometimes one…and a half times. Sometimes I’m lazy too lazy to completely wash off my makeup at night, so I just splash water onto my face, and then do a thorough wash in the morning. But 96% of the time, I wash my face twice, once at night, once in the morning. If you’re wondering about my daily face routine, I have a post solely dedicated to that called Tips for Clear Skin.

What skin type do you have? (dry, oily, combo)
Dry and sensitive

What is your current facial wash?
In the morning – Clean & Clear Daily Morning Burst Facial Cleanser (skin brightening- yellow one)
Night time – AVEENO Foaming Facial cleanser…and then every once in a while I use the Apricot Scrub by ST.IVES

Do you exfoliate?
Every once in a while to get rid of dead skin, gives you a brighter look. 🙂

What brand do you use?
St. Ives.

What moisturizer do you use?
AVEENO Daily Moisturizing something rather (look at the skin care post for more detatils) and PONDS Dry Skin Cream for my face.
Body – usually St.Ives, I find it to be EXTREMELY hydrating.

Do you have freckles?
Nope!

Do you use eye cream?
Noo, I don’t really feel the need to use one for my eyes.

Do you or did you have acne prone skin?
Not at all, thank God.

Did you ever have to use Pro-activ?
No, didn’t ever have the need to.

MAKE-UP
What foundation do you use?
I don’t really use foundation, if I do, it’s a tinted moisturizer. My favourite one is by AVEENO(mentioned this in my skin care post). During the summer, I don’t use any face makeup either, it’s just too much for your skin especially when you’re sweating.

How about concealer?
I don’t really NEED to use concealer, and rarely use it – but if I do, I use the Covergirl Concealer Stick, works fine for me.

Do you know your undertone color?
I think I’m complicated. Based on my skin colour you’d just quickly assume I’m warm toned..but I’m kind of a mixture of warm and cool, so I would say neutral but more warmer than cool.

What do you think of fake eyelashes?
I have quite long eyelashes as it is, and I have never worn false ones before. I feel like I’m scared of the glue or something, haha. But I’m really not into fake ones.

Did you know that you are supposed to change your mascara every 3 months?
YES! Do I always listen to that? No. Have I “disobeyed” and gotten an eye infection? No, thank goodness.

What brand of mascara do you use?
Maybelline!

Sephora or MAC?
Oh definitely Sephora! They have so much variety! 🙂

Do you have a MAC Pro-card?
No, I don’t feel the need to shop much at Mac when there are cheaper alternatives that work perfectly as good.

What makeup tools do you use in make up application?
Brushes, Q-tips, fingers.

Do you use make-up base/primer for the eyes?
Primer not really, my make up base for powdered eye shadows is usually a cream eye shadow. Works great.

For the face?
Don’t need primer for my face since I don’t wear full face makeup.

What is your favorite eyeshadow (color or shade)?
Champagne colours, warm toned browns, shimmery taupe-y/browns.

Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?
Pencil on the lower lashline/waterline and liquid on my lid.

How often do you poke your eyes with an eyeliner pencil?
Rarely! 😛

What do you think of pigment eyeshadows?
I love the shimmery ones, I just find them hard to use and they’re just too messy for my liking.

Do you use mineral makeup?
Not really.

What is your favorite lipstick?
I don’t like wearing lipstick, but if I were to choose, it’d be something from Revlon.

How about lipgloss?
My lipgloss days are over, but something from the Super Lustrous line by Revlon.

What is your favorite blush to use?
Don’t use blush, find it makes my face look too doll like no matter how little I use.

Do you buy your makeup on ebay?
Nooo.

Do you like drugstore makeup?
LOVE IT! I really think that beauty gurus on YouTube should really encourage the use of drugstore products! They have stepped up the quality of their products by a TON! Gurus could buy so many drugstore products for the price of ONE/TWO higher end products. It’s so annoying to see them buy a high end product..and then say that it doesn’t work for them and that they probably won’t ever use it.

Do you go to CCO’s? (cosmetic company outlets)
Do those exist in Canada?

Did you ever consider taking make-up classes?
Nah, not THAT into it.

Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?
Sometimes before I go to class I just majorly mess up my liquid eyeliner…it just sucks. One eye will be perfect, and the other will just look like a train wreck.

Name a makeup crime that you hate?
Caked on foundation.

Do you like colorful shades of makeup (lipstick, eyeshadow) or neutral ones?
I’m definitely more into the more neutral/sultry colours for eyes, and then berry colours for my lips since that enhances my natural lip colour. Sometimes I’ll line my eyes with a coloured liner(other than black/brown), but rarely colourful eyeshadow.

Which celebrity always has great make up?
Oh my goodness, so many! I love Katy Perry’s makeup. Demi Lovato has a pretty good smokey eye look. Ariana Grande for natural looks. Blake Lively has it going on for her. Sophia Bush always looks put together, especially in One Tree Hill.

If you could leave the house using just ONE make up item, what would you use?
Eyeliner all the way!

Could you ever leave the house without any makeup on?
Of course!

Do you think you look good even without any makeup on?
Natural is good, as long as you take good care of your skin! But I like many others do like to enhance some of our features before going out! 🙂

In your opinion, what is the BEST makeup line?
That really is hard to say because every brand has something great to offer. For drugstore I would definitely say NYX or Revlon/Covergirl. Higher end, Urban Decay.

What do you think of Makeup??
It’s fun to play around with different makeup and makeup techniques. The negative is that young people are more pressured to look a certain way after seeing celebrities with flawless makeup on. Everyone needs to know that they don’t NEED makeup to look good. Makeup can bring confidence, but don’t rely completely on makeup AS confidence.

I TAG ALL OF YOU GUYS TO DO THIS TAG! 🙂
